Newly elected office bearers of SUOWA is seeing while taking oath.

Report  Web desk : The newly- elected office-bearers of Sindh University Officers Welfare Association (SUOWA) formally took oath at the swearing-in ceremony held in the Senate Hall of the Administration Block here on Thursday. The Election Chairman Muhammad Mashooque Siddiqui administered oath of the office from them. The pro-vice chancellor of Sindh University Nausheroferoz campus Muhammad Nawaz Narejo was the chief guest of the ceremony. The results for the SUOWA polls were declared on December 15, 2016 after conducting election on the same day. Ghulam Nabi Kaka bagged the president post, defeating his rival Rafique Ahmed Solangi by a margin of 42 votes out of total 118 votes while Engr. Sajjad Shah achieved the general secretary post defeating his opponent Ghulam Murtaza Siyal by a margin of 33 votes. Likewise for the posts of vice-president, Iftikhar Ahmed Pathan, joint secretary Achar Khan Ahmedani and press secretary Nadir Ali Mugheri were declared the winners while maula Bux Rind was termed elected unopposed. According to the results, Sajid Qayoom Memon, Farida Shaikh, Ghulam Hyder Lashari, Muhammad Ali Khuwaja, Sachal Sarmast Joyo, Ali Ursani, Munawar Ali Khuwaja, Ajwed Ahmed Bhatti, Abdul Hakeem Dahri and Khadim Larik were declared members of executive council of the association. Addressing the ceremony, the PVC Muhammad Nawaz Narejo said that he always raised his strong voice for the legal rights of officers including that of promotions adding that being member syndicate, he has been fighting the cases of varsity officers. He said that the groupings among the officers could be before election but no alliances should be made after the election has been held successfully. “If you (officers) are united, no one can harm you. But if you parted ways by falling prey to groups, then you would be facing the difficulties on the campus”, he maintained. He said that the elected body could safeguards the rights of officers and succeed in getting genuine issues of officers resolved only if all the members backed it from shoulder to shoulder. He hoped that the university officers would serve the university, simultaneously the university administration will be doing justice with the officers as authority and power are entrusted by Allah which are to be asked by Him. Mr. Narejo also lauded the role of officers of the university in reforming and development of the university and assured to provide all possible support for the welfare and improvement. The officers association is committed to work for the welfare of officers and for development and progress of the university; the officers are undoubtedly the backbone of any institution. On the occasion, the chairman election committee Muhammad Mashooque Siddiqui advised all the officers to work for the development and progress of university and welfare of officers. The president Ghulam Nabi Kaka vowed that he will be utilizing all the sources to get the fair issues of the officers resolved on priority basis including due promotions of officers, postings on the basis of right man on right job and providing training opportunities to the officers equally. He said that many officers were sidelined and given time scale instead of giving them promotion even after the approval of syndicate discovering that there were many issues pertaining to the officers which needed an urgent attention to be resolved. “Our vice-chancellor is very much positive and kind, the association pins great hopes in him, I am sure all the long-standing problems of our officers will be solved in the twinkle of an eye”, he said. Mr. Kaka said that the seniority lists issued recently were not acceptable to the officers as all the general officers have been shown as ex. cadre officers. He assured full support to the development of the university adding that SU would be the top standard university with our joint efforts. On the occasion, general secretary Engr. Sajjad Hussain Shah resolved to work for the welfare and betterment of officers and development of university. He said the administration will have to solve the long-lasting issues of officers, computer programmers, librarians and Engineering wing including promotions, time scale, postings on merit and removal of those enjoying dual charges. He hoped that administration would take all the measures to redress the grievances of officers rather than lingering on the matters relating to the officers. Syed Ahsan Shah Rashdi rendered the services of stage secretary while Nadir Ali Mugheri delivered vote of thanks in the ceremony. Earlier, the traditional gifts of Ajrak were presented to the guests and the winning officers were decorated with garlands.
