Blogger  Kaleem Butt : Throughout ages world has seen many major changes and these changes have changed the perspective of human beings, but the Pakistani people always live in backdates, they start doing things that world had left centuries ago. One such thing Pakistani nation lives up with, is the personality cult or cult of the personality, social scientists describe this term as “when individual uses mass media, propaganda and other means to create and idealized, heroic and at times worshipful image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.” A sociologist named Max Webber claims that a cult of personality is similar to divinization. In Pakistan of today Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief has revived this cult and become an icon for youth of Pakistan, having only one qualification of winning the cricket world cup in 1992. Prior to Imran Khan, it was Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who created the personality cult and who by the way is still alive in Sindh. Those who surround IK today, were growing up during 1992 when he brought the crystal trophy to Pakistan and the youth became his admirer and he got a blind followership as a politician. But as a political leader he raise issues that are not concerned with common people, yet the common people are seen dancing on his speeches and cheering up. Imran raises petty issues like Panama scandal, ragging in elections and finally to send back Nawaz Sharif home. Is corruption a new phenomena for Pakistan or even the ragging of elections in Pakistan, in fact there are political scientists who are of the opinion that Pakistan has never seen a free and fair election, one could only quote as example the 1970 elections as free and fair elections but even though that one is doubtful. However, Imran and PTI never raise voice regarding the most important issues of this country, for example on 16th December 2014, a deadly terrorist attack was launched on Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar, where his party rules, but no one has ever heard this icon of youth to ask how that deadly incident took place, who is reasonable for that, has any official inquiry been conducted in this regard, if any then why it has not been publicized yet. Or he never raised voice on the 8th August attack upon lawyers at Quetta, never asked why that happened, who was involved in it and where is the inquiry report on that? Now Imran is planning to siege the capital, this is not for the first time that Imran is going to make the lives of people miserable with his non-sense sit-in, why shouldn’t the world isolate Pakistan? When its main leaders are even on not one page during this critical juncture, why should world take Pakistan seriously, when it leaders don’t take it seriously. Imran has created such a personality cult following him blindly, without thinking reasonably that this cult would damage Pakistan externally and internally, may Imran do not have the same fate like that of Bhutto, or he would remain alive till few generations. Recently PTI MNA Murad Saeed punched PML-N MNA Javed Latif outside the assembly, where they do legislation for people like you and me, in the premises of that building abusive language by PTI MNAs is normal thing but now due this personality cult, PTI is rising fists on their political opponents, here raise an important question whether this personality cult of PTI is a healthy sign for Pakistani politics or not? We should decide before it is too late. 02
