LAHORE: 14 April 2024: The Punjab government has formed a five-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to look into the Bahawalnagar incident. The notification, available with Dawn, states that the Punjab Home Department's special secretary will lead the JIT, which also includes the Bahawalpur Division commissioner, Special Branch Punjab DIG, and representatives from the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

The JIT's mandate is to investigate the police raid on Rana Muhammad Anwar's house on April 8 and the events that followed on April 9 and 10.

On Friday, the Punjab government and Pakistan Army vowed to conduct transparent investigations into the reported "face-off" between police and army personnel after the arrest of a serving army official, which sparked controversy on social media during the Eid holidays.

Four Madressah police officials, including the station house officer (SHO), have been arrested on charges of unlawfully detaining a man and his two sons, including an army official, dereliction of duty, and misuse of authority.
