Report  Web desk : ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission’s deadline to implement its directive regarding raising the minimum qualification for appointment of lecturers to 18 years of education is ending by the end of this month. In March, the HEC re-circulated a notification to all universities about ensuring implementation of the new qualification criteria for the appointment of lecturers and assistant professors. Under the new criteria, the minimum qualification for the appointment of a lecturer would be an MPhil, MS or an equivalent degree (18 years) or a master’s degree from a foreign university. The HEC has been issuing letters to vice-chancellors and rectors, asking them to ensure that the minimum qualification for appointment of a lecturer should be MPhil/MS or equivalent degree i.e., 18 years, or masters from a foreign university.
