Hyderabad: 3 May 2023: Journalists around the world are facing serious dangers. They're dealing with things like legal trouble, money problems, and even threats of violence. This makes it hard for them to do their job properly. The recent conflict in Gaza shows how risky it is for journalists in places where there's fighting. Since October 7th, nearly 100 journalists and media workers have been killed. In India, things aren't looking good for press freedom. Recently Jan Muhammad Mahar was killed, despite countrywide protest his killers are still not arrested.

The government doesn't like criticism and is making it harder for journalists to speak out. Most of the media is owned by just a few people who support the ruling party. This means there's not much variety in the news. Journalists who speak up may face trouble from the government or be influenced by who's paying them. Bangladesh has its own problems with press freedom. A new law passed last year gives the government more power over the media.

This could lead to journalists being controlled or punished for what they say. Violence against journalists is also a big issue, showing a lack of respect for independent reporting. Pakistan has a long history of press freedom struggles. The government and security forces both try to control what the media says.

Even when a new party comes into power, things don't get much better for journalists. For example, there's a rule that some news channels can't even say the name of a political figure. Journalists often face censorship, threats, and violence, no matter who's in charge.

In Pakistan, it's more important than ever for the media to stick together. This will help them deal with pressure better, keep their reporting honest, and fight against attempts to control what they say. On World Press Freedom Day, let's all agree to stand together and protect our independence as journalists. This will help keep press freedom strong in our country.
