People living near dykes at Sukkur Barrage would be given alternative land: Khursheed Shah

Report  Bisma Waseem : Sukkur: While presiding over a meeting with delegation of representatives of those living on dykes of the offtaking canals of Sukkur Barrage at Commissioner House Sukkur, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that the people living on the dykes of offtaking canals of Sukkur Barrage would be provided government lands as alternate with rights of ownership on humanitarian grounds in the areas of Rohri and Bagarji near Sukkur. Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on the occasion directed Commissioner Sukkur to immediately start the survey of houses existing on the dykes of canals and get completed the work of removing all illegal encroachments without any discrimination. He further directed that the Inspection Path should be vacated as soon as possible so that the work for up-rise and strengthening the protective bunds of canals would get started. He said that he would talk to Sindh Chief Minister in connection for payment of compensation money to the residents of dykes of canals in order to get vacated the possession from them and they may be able to build their huts at other place. MNA Noman Islam Shaikh on the occasion said that encroachments from dykes of canals would be got removed phase-wise. He asked the representatives of those who were living on bunds of canals that if they dispossess their houses voluntarily then they would be provided alternate government land for their living. On this occasion, Executive Engineer, Sukkur Barrage told the meeting that there were 23 RDs from Sukkur Barrage to Arain consisting the distance of about 24 kilometers where population of thousands of people who were living on dykes of all three canals. He said that encroachments were being got removed as per orders of the Supreme Court. 02
