Sachinda Dulanjana: An Inspiration for Youth

Sachinda Dulanjana is the Official Sri Lankan youth delegate to the United Nations who represented Sri Lanka at the 71st United Nations General Assembly which was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York. He also holds the position of the Honorable Speaker of the Youth Parliament of Sri Lanka. Last Year Sachinda was appointed as the Asia Regional Representative (2016-2018) to the steering Committee of the Commonwealth Student Association which comes under the Commonwealth Secretariat. Recently he was also appointed as a Global Youth Ambassador for A World At A School, Global Youth Advocacy Network for education. Sachinda graduated from the National Institute of Social Development of Sri Lanka. He has obtained a Diploma in Diplomacy and the World Affairs from the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute in Sri Lanka and he also holds a Diploma in ‘International Relations’ from Bandaranaike Center for International Studies. Sachinda is currently studying for his Attorneys in the final year at Sri Lanka Law College. Sachinda also studies for his Masters Degree in Human Rights at University of Colombo. He was the Youth advisor on social work in the United Nations Youth Advisory Panel (UNYAP 2014-2017) to the United Nations Country Team. He has also served as the Youth Coordinator for United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA) in Sri Lanka And he is one of Youth Bloggers for UNDP Sri Lanka ‘UNLOCKED’ Blog site as well. Currently he is working in the capacity of a facilitator for British Council’s Active Citizens Youth program where he trains young people on social action project implementation. He has also taken part in the Active Citizens International Study Visit which took place in the Bangladesh in 2012. Sachinda was named as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Sri Lanka (TOYP AWARD 2015) for Year 2015 by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) under the category of voluntary or humanitarian services. He was one of the regional finalists for the Commonwealth Youth Worker Award in 2013. He was recognized by the Commonwealth Secretariat as one of the best four youth workers in Asia region. In 2014 he was also invited as a guest panelist on youth work to address the Asia Regional Commonwealth Youth ministers meeting in 2014 which was held in India. He was also awarded as one of the 12 outstanding volunteers in Sri Lanka by United Nations Volunteers program and Ministry of Social Services of Sri Lankan Government at V Awards 2013 to appreciate his immense voluntary service to Sri Lankan Community. As a freelance leadership trainer and a motivational speaker Sachinda has a special interest on areas such as productivity, leadership, capacity building, soft skills, peace building & sustainable development goals etc. Throughout the past few years he has been empowering thousands of youth from all over the country. He was a resource person on Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) for the first ever national tour on Sustainable Development Goals and Peace which was organized by United Nations Information Center and Universal Peace Federation. Sachinda also took part as an international youth delegate in the Commonwealth Youth Forum which was held in Malta, Europe in connection with CHOGM 2015 . He was also youth delegate for the Commonwealth Youth Forum 2013 and World Conference on Youth 2014 which was held in Sri Lanka. He was the youngest panelist in the panel discussion which was organized connection with International Day of Girl Child 2014 by United Nations Resident Coordinator’s office for Sri Lanka. He was also a panelist in the one of the panels at the launch of the National Sustainable Development Engagement Platform and the Inaugural Transformation Dialogue 2016 organized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development & Wild Life. Sachinda is the founder of the youth led initiative called H3 Foundation - Hearts and Hands of Humanity which promotes youth volunteerism in Sri Lanka. Recently he took part in the Asia & Pacific Regional consultation on United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace & Security which was held at United Nations Regional Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand.
