Lahore: 9 September 2023: In Punjab, 21,900 women were raped between 2017 and 2021. Data obtained from the Human Rights Ministry and the Punjab Home Department.
According to War Against Rape, these numbers are just the "tip of the iceberg."
According to a survey by an advocacy group, as many as 21,900 women were raped in Punjab in only four years, which translates to an average of 12 women being molested every day or one woman every two hours, The media reported on Saturday.
Data from the Punjab home department and the Ministry of Human Rights from 2017 to 2021 are cited in the War Against Rape (WAR) report. Due to prosecutorial shortcomings and low conviction rates, sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) against women and children in Pakistan continues to constitute a serious threat to their safety and well-being. This leads to lifelong mental health issues.
