5th death anniversary of Marium Mukhtiar being observed today

KARACHI: 24, NOVEMBER, 2020: Fifth death anniversary of the brave fighter pilot Maryam Mukhtiar is being observed today (Tuesday).
Born on May 18, 1992, in Karachi, Mariam Mukhtiar hailed from a family having a military background. Her father, Mukhtiar Ahmed Shaikh was a retired colonel of the Pakistan Army, who inspired her to join the armed forces.
Maryam was the first female pilot of Pakistan Air Force who sacrificed her life in the line of duty and attained Shahadat. Maryam Mukhtar joined the Pakistan Air Force in 2014 as a graduate. She belonged to PAF's 132nd GD Pilot Course in which 6 other women also participated.
She was on a mission on November 24, 2015 when her trainer jet crashed near Kundian area of district Mianwali four years ago.
A PAF spokesman after the crash stated that the aircraft had developed a technical fault but the pilot managed to divert the jet away from the populated area to avoid any harm to the population. (04)
