9th to Inter classes resume from today under strict Covid-19 SOPs after nearly two-month hiatus

ISLAMABAD: 18, JANUARY, 2021: Matric and intermediate classes have resumed on Monday as per the schedule with standard operating procedures (SOPs) after two-month closure due to second wave of the coronavirus.
The District Education Authority has ended the policy of fifty percent attendance for the teaching staff as all teachers are bound to attend schools from today.
On the other hand, classes from one to eight, of Graduation, Masters, MPhil and PHD will resume in second phase on February 1.
It is pertinent to mention here that, the educational institutions across the country were closed for second time from November 26, 2020 in the wake of the increasing number of the novel virus.
On January 15, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Friday had announced a revised schedule to reopen the educational institutes and said that classes from one to eight will resume on February 1 instead of January 25.
While speaking at the press conference, the minister said 9th to intermediate classes will resume from January 18 while all higher education institutions including colleges and universities will reopen from February 1 as per the previous schedule.
The educational institutions will now be reopened in two phases instead of three.
Earlier, the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) has planned to reopen educational institutions in three phases with classes 9th to intermediate resume from January 18.
The decision made in a meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers (IPEMC) while keeping in view of the coronavirus cases in the country and the health advisory.
The conference was held via video link which was attended by education ministers from all four provinces.
Shafqat Mahmood held a press conference along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, after presiding over the meeting.
Shafqat Mahmood announced, "The educational institutions will be reopened in three phases. After matric and intermediate, classes from one to eight will resume on January 25 in phase two while all higher education institutions including colleges and universities will reopen from February 1 in phase three."
The health safety of students remained the government’s foremost priority," he added. (04)
