AC grants 2-day transit remand of Agha Siraj Durrani

ISLAMABAD: 04, DECEMBER, 2021: An accountability court on Saturday has approved 2-day transit remand of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani in assets beyond income case.
According to sources, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani was produced before the NAB court.
The court has granted two-day transit remand of PPP leader in aforesaid case.
A day earlier, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani from the premises of Supreme Court (SC) in assets beyond income reference.
As per sources, Agha Siraj Durrani shifted to NAB Rawalpindi office where he underwent his medical checkup.
Supreme Court (SC) on Friday had ordered Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani to surrender before National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader had appeared before the apex court. A three-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the matter.
According to sources, the speaker approached the Supreme court in a case pertaining to his bail in assets beyond income reference.
The apex court directed the Speaker Sindh Assembly to surrender before NAB.
Earlier, on October 14, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team failed to arrest Speaker of Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani and returned after 15 hours empty handed.
The NAB team had raided the residence of the Speaker Sindh Assembly after the Sindh High Court rejected his bail petition. However, the team could not arrest Agha Siraj Durrani due to resistance from his guards.
On November 6, Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected bail plea of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani and seven other accused in the assets case.
The High Court rejected the bail pleas of eight accused, including Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani while the court granted bail to Agha Siraj's wife, son, three daughters and an accused.
Earlier in December 2019, the SHC had approved bail of Agha Siraj Durrani but NAB approached the SC against the bail.
The apex court sent the matter back the high court. The Chief Justice of the High Court had constituted a special bench of two judges in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that, besides Agha Siraj Durrani, his wife and son Shahbaz Durrani, other persons including Tufail Ahmed, Metha Khan, Aslam Pervez Langah, Zulfiqar Dahir and Gulzar Ahmed have been nominated in the aforesaid reference filed by NAB. (04)
