AJK elections: 37,500 security personnel to be deployed at polling stations

MUZAFFARABAD: 21, JULY, 2021: As many as 37,500 security personnel will be deployed in Azad Jammu & Kashmir at all polling stations to ensure free, fair and transparent elections for the Legislative Assembly.

While addressing a presser in Muzaffarabad, Chief Secretary Azad Kashmir, Shakil Qadir Khan said the decision has been taken as per directions of the Chief Election Commissioner. 

5,300 personnel of police and 32,200 civil armed forces from the provinces of Pakistan will be deployed at various polling stations, he added. 

The Chief Secretary said 6,000 to 7,000 Pakistan Army troops would also be on backup to assist the civil administration at sensitive polling stations. 

It is pertinent to mention here that, elections for legislative assembly of Azad Kashmir will take place on July 25 (Sunday).

Chief Election Commissioner AJK said "In the election 32,20,546 Kashmiris could cast their votes," adding that, "In the polls 15,19,347 male voters and 12,97,747 female voters will be eligible to cast their votes." 

Rangers and police along with civil administration will be deployed during the polls. 

The elections will be held to elect 45 representatives of the legislative assembly, including 33 in Azad Kashmir and 12 for Kashmiri migrants.

More than 2.8 million people will cast their votes.

It is pertinent to mention here that, National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) had proposed to the Election Commission that the Azad Kashmir elections be postponed in view of the threat of global coronavirus outbreak. (04)
