Armed man shot dead by New York police after opening fire at cathedral

NEW YORK: 14, DECEMBER, 2020: A gunman opened fire from the steps of New York's city Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine just after an outdoor choir performance on Sunday, and was himself shot dead by police, according to police and a Reuters photographer at the scene.
New York City Police Department spokesman Sergeant Edward Riley said the armed man had fired on police, but no officers were wounded in the mishap.
The shooting occurred outside the landmark cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of New York, located at Amsterdam Avenue and West 112th Street, about 15 minutes after the conclusion of an outdoor choir performance on the church steps drew an audience of about 200 people.
