KARACHI: 14, OCTOBER, 2021: A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team has failed to arrest Speaker of Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani and returned after 15 hours empty handed.
The NAB team had raided the residence of the Speaker Sindh Assembly after the Sindh High Court rejected his bail petition. However, the team could not arrest Agha Siraj Durrani due to resistance from his guards.
On Wednesday, Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected bail plea of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani and seven other accused in the assets case.
According to details, Justice Nadeem Akhtar and Justice Iqbal Kalhoro had reserved the verdict last week.
The High Court rejected the bail pleas of eight accused, including Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani while the court granted bail to Agha Siraj's wife, son, three daughters and an accused.
Earlier in December 2019, the SHC had approved bail of Agha Siraj Durrani but NAB approached the SC against the bail.
The apex court sent the matter back the high court. The Chief Justice of the High Court had constituted a special bench of two judges in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that, besides Agha Siraj Durrani, his wife and son Shahbaz Durrani, other persons including Tufail Ahmed, Metha Khan, Aslam Pervez Langah, Zulfiqar Dahir and Gulzar Ahmed have been nominated in the aforesaid reference filed by NAB. (04)
