Perth: 19 Nov 2023: With a six-wicket victory over the hosts India on Sunday, Australia crushed the hopes of billions of fans with an outstanding century from Travis Head, securing their sixth World Cup title.
Head, Australia's opening batsman, reached 137 off just 120 balls, smashing 15 fours and 4 sixes, before being removed with the team two runs short of victory.
His century was only the third by an Australian batsman and the seventh in a World Cup final.
With seven overs remaining, Head and Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out) shared a fourth-wicket stand of 192 as Australia managed to chase down a modest goal of 241.
