CM Sindh to preside over provincial Task Force meeting on covid-19 today

KARACHI: 15, JANUARY, 2022: A meeting of the Provincial Task Force on coronavirus will be held today (Saturday).
According to sources, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah will preside over the session in which the imposition of new restrictions to control coronavirus Omicron variant spread will be discussed.
Sources informed that, the provincial health department forwarded its suggestions to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) regarding the novel virus-related restrictions.
It has been recommended to close wedding halls in the first phase to prevent Omicron spread.
In addition, the Sindh health department will submit the same recommendations to the provincial task force today.
It is to be noted that, coronavirus infections tally in the country has surged 1,320,120 on Saturday after more cases were reported in different parts of the country.
According to the national database, 4,286 persons tested positive for the deadly virus in 24 hours whereas the positivity rate stands at 8.16 percent.
As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 497,153 the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 451,408, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases jumped to 182,100, in Balochistan 33,684 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases reached 110,597, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 10,439 while 34,739 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In addition, the country has recorded 29,003 deaths so far, after four deaths were reported over the last 24 hours.
As per official data, Punjab recorded 13,087 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 7,693 in Sindh, 5,953 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 186 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 367 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 968 deaths and AJK recorded 749 deaths.
According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 24,085,473, corona tests and 52,522 in last 24 hours and 1,263,005 patients have recovered.
Reportedly, 471,845 patients have been recovered in Sindh, 430,433 in Punjab, 175,372 in KP, 33,272 in Balochistan, 107,903 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 10,243 in Gilgit-Baltistan while in AJK 33,937 patients have been completely recovered across Pakistan whereas 709 patients are in critical condition.
