COVID-19 cases cross 64 million worldwide, death toll reaches 1,486,829

WASHINGTON: 17, NOVEMBER, 2020: The countries all over the world are facing continuous spike in COVID-19 related cases and deaths, despite the strict restrictions.
The number of coronavirus cases recorded worldwide has crossed 64 million (64,194,674), according to John Hopkins and AFP tally while the deadly virus claimed 1,486,829 lives worldwide so far and 44,441,249 patients have been recuperated.
The number of people infected with corona in the US, the world's hardest-hit country has risen to 14,108,490 and the total number of deaths has reached 276,976.
India, the second hardest-hit country reported 9,499,710 cases with 138,159 deaths.
Brazil is the third worst-hit country by the coronavirus, with 6,388,526 patients and 173,862 deaths.
In Russia, 2,322,056 people have been infected by Corona while the total death toll rose to 40,464.
South Africa, the fifth highest number of infections in the world, after the US, Brazil, India and Russia. The death toll from Coronavirus in South Africa has risen nearly 21,640, with 792,299 people affected.
In Peru, the death tally has jumped to 36,031, with 965,228 infections.
On the other hand, Mexico reported 1,122,362 cases so far with 106,765 fatalities.
The coronavirus has infected more than 552,864 people in Chile and left 15,430 dead.
Number of cases in Spain has climbed to 1,673,202 with 45,511 deaths.
In UK, the virus infections reached 1,643,086 and death toll rose to 59,051.
The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran has jumped to 975,951 and 48,628 have been died.
On Tuesday, Turkey imposed a complete lockdown on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) due to increase in coronavirus cases.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan had said that a complete lockdown will be enforced on Saturday and Sunday following the spike in new cases and deaths in recent weeks. He said people would not be allowed to leave the house for the entire weekend from 9pm on Friday to 5am on Monday.
