Coalition on the Brink? Bilawal, Shehbaz Set for Damage Control Meeting

news-details

ISLAMABAD: 07.10.2025: The ongoing rift between coalition partners, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has reached a critical stage, prompting plans for a high-level meeting between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the coming days.

Amid growing tensions over aid distribution to Punjab flood victims and fiery exchanges between party leaders, the planned meeting is seen as a key attempt to restore working relations within the coalition government.

According to insiders, Prime Minister Shehbaz has also briefed PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif about the dispute and urged him to help calm the situation. However, Nawaz has reportedly stood firmly behind Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, supporting her stance and public statements.

No headway was made in recent PPP–PML-N talks, and the PPP’s walkout from both the Senate and National Assembly has been interpreted as a clear warning shot to the government.

A meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Shehbaz was also on the cards but was postponed due to the prime minister’s visit to Malaysia.
