ISLAMABAD: 16, JANUARY, 2021: Renowned lawyer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Naeem Bukhari was removed by the government from his post as chairman Pakistan Television (PTV) and two other directors of PTV board as they were over 65 years old on Friday.
Sources said, the federal cabinet approved the removal of chairman PTV Naeem Bukhari from office through a circulation summary.
Remember that, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had restrained the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) chairman, Naeem Bukhari from working, on Thursday (Dec 14).
According to sources, a single bench led by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, heard a petition against the appointment of Naeem Bukhari as chairman PTV.
During the hearing, the court remarked that no reason was presented for granting relaxation in age requirement and the federal govt did not make a clear decision on it.
The court said that the summary was forwarded without going through verdict of the Supreme Court.
The court said Bukhari was a respected figure but "no one was above the law".
The court noted that the information ministry had repeated the same mistakes as those made in Mr Qasmi’s case and did not go through the apex court's judgement before sending the summary to the federal cabinet.
The ministry representative informed the court that the federal cabinet had approved the summaries.
"Did you inform them of the apex court verdict? By omitting it, you are embarrassing the federal cabinet as well."
Earlier on November 23, 2020, the federal government appointed renowned lawyer Naeem Bukhari as the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) Chairman for a period of three years. (04)
