Hajj 2021: Ghilaf e Kaaba changing ceremony held in Makkah

MAKKAH: 19, JULY, 2021: The annual ritual to change the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba was held at Masjid al-Haram (the Sacred Mosque) in Saudi Arabia today (Monday), where Muslims have gathered to perform the Hajj. This year the Muslims are performing second downsized Hajj owing to coronavirus.

According to details, the new cover has been prepared with estimated 120 kg pure gold, 100 kg of silver and 670 kg silk fiber.

The covering cloth of the Kaaba, known as Kiswa, is changed on 9th Zilhaj every year after Fajr prayer on the day of Arafat that is main pillar of the Hajj.

Precautionary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The main ritual of Hajj, Waqoof-e-Arafat, will be performed today. In the first phase of Hajj, the pilgrims spent a day and following night in Mina — a tent city near Makkah, and later started moving to towards mount Arafat where the main pillar of Hajj pilgrimage, Waqoof-e-Arafat, will be observed.

Pilgrims will listen the sermon to be delivered at Nimra Mosque and perform Zohr and Asr prayers together.

The pilgrims will spend time in Arafat with prayers for acceptance of their pilgrimage and recitation of Qur’anic verses until sunset. (04)
