Hike in petrol prices challenged in LHC

LAHORE: 02, OCTOBER, 2021: Hike in the prices of petroleum products has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) today (Saturday). 

The plaintiff has demanded to retract the decision. The hike has put additional burden on the people already reeling from rising inflation, he added.

OGRA, federal government and other institutions have been made party in the petition.

A day earlier, opposition parties on Friday have staged protest in National Assembly against increase in the prices of petroleum products. The session was adjourned after the opposition walked out.

According to details, the opposition staged a protest in the National Assembly against the rise in prices of petroleum products.

During the session, the opposition members while holding playcards, raised slogans against Prime Minister Imran Khan govt gathered around the rostrum of NA speaker Asad Qaiser and demanded to retract the decision of hike in prices.

The session adjourned the proceedings for definite time period.

Opposition leaders also staged protests outside Parliament House and chanted anti-government slogans.

The reaction came after the government increased the price of petrol by Rs4 per litre from October 1 (Friday) and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2 per litre.

In addition, the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil (LDO) were increased by Rs7.05 and Rs8.82 per litre, respectively.

The decision was made as per the recommendation of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

The new price of petrol will be Rs127.20 per litre against the current rate of Rs123.20 per litre. The prices of high-speed diesel (HSD) was enhanced by Rs2 per litre and will now cost Rs122.04 per litre. The price of kerosene oil was also increased by Rs7.02 per litre to Rs99.31 per litre against Rs92.29 per litre. (04)
