Hot weather to grip Karachi from today

KARACHI: 12, OCTOBER, 2020: Karachi will face heatwave from today (Monday) and the temperature in the city could go up to 40 to 42 degree centigrade.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, mercury is likely to remain at 42 degree in Karachi for seven days.
The PMD said that citizens should not leave their homes unnecessarily between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The weather office has issued a heatwave alert across Sindh. Winds would blow mainly from the north and northwest in Karachi during this period.
Director Meteorology Department Sardar Sarfraz informed that, the heat wave will be felt above the prescribed temperature in the province and the duration of the heatwave will last for a week.
On October 9, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast the possibility of increase in the intensity of heat in the city during the next four to five days. In this regard, according to the Director Meteorological Department Sardar Sarfraz, the weather in the city may remain hot and humid in the next 4 to 5 days while the speed of sea breezes is also likely to decrease during this period.
The director of the Meteorological Department said hot and dry winds could blow from the northeast, causing temperatures in the city to hover between 37 and 39 degrees celsius.
Sardar Sarfraz said that low air pressure could form in the Bay of Bengal which could turn into depression in the coming days.
He added that cyclones form in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal during October and November.
If the depression reaches central India, the winds in Karachi may change direction, while the depression does not pose a direct threat to Pakistan's coastline.
