ISLAMABAD: 24, JANUARY, 2022: Justice Ayesha Malik on Monday has taken oath as the first female judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).
According to sources, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed administered the oath to her at a ceremony in capital.
Justice Ayesha A. Malik was born in 1966 and received her early education in Paris, New York and Karachi.
She did her B.Com from Karachi and obtained her LLB degree from Lahore. Malik completed her LLM from Harvard Law School, USA. The 55-year-old justice sworn in as a judge of Lahore High Court (LHC) on March 27, 2012.
It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Ayesha A. Malik will be the judge of the Supreme Court till March 2031. She is fourth on the seniority list in the LHC. Lahore High Court's Justice Ayesha A. Malik was notified as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan , officially becoming Pakistan's first-ever woman judge to be green lighted to sit on the apex court.
According to a notification issued by the law ministry, her appointment has been approved by President Arif Alvi and will come into effect as soon as she takes oath of office.
Malik (born 3 June 1966) has been a Judge of the Lahore High Court in Pakistan since 27 March 2012.
On January 06, 2022, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan approved her to become the first ever female judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Even the latest JCP meeting held on January 6 hotly contested the issue before finally granting approval of Malik's nomination by a marginal difference of five members supporting Malik while four opposing her nomination.
Justice Malik was appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court in March 2012. She will now work as a Supreme Court judge until her superannuation in June 2031.
She would be in the line to become the chief justice also in January 2030 on the basis of her seniority. (04)
