PESHAWAR: 09.10.2025: Ali Amin Gandapur resigned as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, following orders from PTI founder Imran Khan. He has submitted his resignation to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor.
His resignation came hours after PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed Sohail Afridi’s nomination as the new KP CM.
Gandapur said that he stepped down out of respect for Imran Khan’s instructions and reflected on the challenges faced during his tenure, including restoring financial stability and fighting terrorism in the province.
Salman Akram Raja emphasized that Gandapur’s resignation was in his own best interest and expressed confidence in Afridi’s leadership. He also hinted at a new policy direction for PTI.
The party dismissed reports of internal splits, but Gandapur’s exit followed ongoing tensions within PTI, especially between him and Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan. The PTI founder had asked both Gandapur and Aleema to avoid public disputes to maintain party unity.
Political analysts suggested Aleema Khan’s influence played a role in the leadership change, with Gandapur’s position under threat for some time.
