Karachi: 32 more staff members of educational institute contract virus

KARACHI: 30, JANUARY, 2021: As many as 32 staff members of educational institute in Karachi infected with the coronavirus on Saturday.
According to a statement of the Sindh education department, the infected staffers of the college have been sent to quarantine.
A day earlier, as much as 59 more staffers of Karachi have contracted the novel coronavirus.
According to health officials, sample of 130 staffers of Sir Syed Girls College Karachi were collected for testing, out of which 59 were found infected.
It is to be noted that, at least 21 staffers at the Shaheed-e-Millat Girls Colleges were diagnosed with Covid-19, whereas three at the Delhi College and 21 at the Government Riaz Girls College also tested positive for the deadly virus.
Tests of teaching and non-teaching staff of several other colleges of the city are yet to be conducted in phases.
It is pertinent to mention here that, classes nine to Intermediate resumed on January 18 while classes one to eight as well as universities will reopen from February 1.
The number of coronavirus infections has jumped to 543,214 on Saturday after more cases were reported in different parts of the country.
According to the national database, 2,179 persons tested positive for the deadly virus in 24 hours whereas the total count of active cases increased up to 33,439.
As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 245,663 the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 156,928, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases jumped to 66,679, in Balochistan 18,809 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases reached 41,255, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 4,908 while 8,972 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In addition, the country has recorded 11,623 deaths so far, after 65 fatalities were reported over the last 24 hours.
As per official data, Punjab recorded 4,716 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 3,986 in Sindh, 1,890 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 102 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 195 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 476 deaths and AJK recorded 259 deaths.
According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 7,889,741 corona tests and 41,435 in last 24 hours and 498,152 patients have recovered whereas 2,111 patients are in a critical condition across the country. (04)
