Lockdown imposed in several districts of Punjab as virus cases spike

LAHORE: 03, AUGUST, 2021: In the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases, lockdown has been imposed in various districts of Punjab on Monday night. 

According to a notification issued by the authorities in this regard. 

lockdown will remain imposed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan till August 31. 

All markets and business activities in these districts will remain continue till 8:00pm.

Pharmacies, Medical stores, hospitals, petrol pumps, tandoors, milk and dairy shops, food takeaways and e-commerce, oil depots and all kinds of mandis including grain, fruit, cattle and vegetable mandis will remain open. 

Complete ban is imposed on indoor dining. However, outdoor shall be allowed till 10:00pm under strict COVID protocol. Takeaways are allowed 24 hours.

Moreover, indoor weddings and functions shall be banned with effect from August 8 whereas outdoor wedding shall be allowed with maximum 400 guests under strict COVID protocol with till 10:00pm. 

Furthermore, there shall be complete closure of Shrines and cinemas.

Complete ban is also imposed on all kind of indoor gatherings including, cultural, religious and other events. However, outdoor gatherings shall be allowed will maximum 400 individuals under strict SOPs. 

The number of coronavirus cases has climbed 1,043,277 on Tuesday after more infections were reported in different parts of the country.

According to the national database 3,582 persons tested positive for the deadly virus in 24 hours whereas the positivity rate stands at 7.19 percent.

As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 387,261 the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 358,387, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases jumped to 145,306, in Balochistan 30,627 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases reached 88,344, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 8,318 while 25,034 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In addition, the country has recorded 23,529 deaths so far, after 67 fatalities were reported over the last 24 hours.

As per official data, Punjab recorded 11,083 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 6,057 in Sindh, 4,477 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 147 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 328 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 804 deaths and AJK recorded 633 deaths.

According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 16,158,330, corona tests and 49,798 in last 24 hours and 944,375 patients have recovered. 

Reportedly, 333,201 patients have been recovered in Sindh, 333,529 in Punjab, 136,477 in KP, 29,022 in Balochistan, 83,567 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 7,316 in Gilgit-Baltistan while in AJK 21,263 patients have been completely recovered across Pakistan whereas 3,398 patients are in critical condition across the country.
