Islamabad: 22 Sep 2023: Hasan Ali is one of the 15 players selected by Pakistan's cricket chief selector Inzamamul Haq for the team, which will compete in the ICC World Cup in 2023. Star pacer Naseem Shah, who suffered an injury during the Asia Cup, is not included in the roster.
The World Cup will start on October 5 and be hosted by India's bitter rivals. On October 6, Pakistan will play its opening game at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi Stadium against the Netherlands.
With losses to India and Sri Lanka, Pakistan had a poor Asia Cup. India eventually won the competition.
Shah was replaced by Ali after suffering a shoulder injury during the Asia Cup match against India. The team includes Haris Rauf, who suffered an injury in the same game as well. The team includes Shaheen Afridi, the team's speed spearhead.
Bowlers Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Hasnain, who were on the team for the Asia Cup, are notable omissions.
Inzamam responded to a query about the selection of Ali, who hasn't participated in an ODI since June 2022, by saying that the medium-paced bowler was chosen due to his familiarity with a new ball.
"Now that Naseem is gone, we needed a bowler who could bowl with a new ball and I think Hasan Ali is a very good choice in that regard.”
He added that Ali was a “team man” and his inclusion in the side would bring energy to the team.
