Newly-elected Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet members sworn in

ISLAMABAD: 02, DECEMBER, 2020: The newly-elected cabinet of Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday has taken oath on Wednesday.
According to details, the oath was administered by Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon at the Governor House.
Prime Minister Imran Khan was also attended oath taking ceremony which was held with limited guests while strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Prime Minister Imran Khan reached Gilgit-Baltistan on a one-day official visit along with members of the federal cabinet. He was received by the Governor and newly elected Chief Minister on his arrival in Gilgit.
According to sources, PM also addressed the newly elected cabinet members. Sources further said that, the premier will also attend a session in Gilgit on new national parks in the region while he will be briefed by Federal Minister for Climate Change on the occasion.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Khalid Khurshid had taken oath as Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister during a ceremony with limited guests due to coronavirus pandemic.
The oath was administered by Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon at the Governor House.Khalid Khurshid was elected as Gilgit-Baltistan CM on Monday night.
He won the seat from GBLA-13 constituency in General Elections that were held on November 15.
It should be noted that Khalid Khursheed had joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2018.
It may be recalled that in Gilgit-Baltistan elections, 21 members belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while PPP is the second largest party in the Assembly with 4 members including one woman and one technocrat.
On the other hand, on Thursday, PTI candidate Amjad Ali Zaidi had been elected Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.Polling was held for the post of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, in which Amjad Ali Zaidi of PTI and Ghulam Muhammad of Opposition contested for Speaker.
The PTI candidate won the election with a total of 18 votes while the opposition's candidate managed to obtain 8 votes against Amjad Ali Zaidi. (04)
