Out of the 126 judges serving in Pakistan's superior judiciary, only seven are women

Islamabad: 30 March 2024: A recent report from the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) has disclosed that out of the 126 judges serving in Pakistan's superior judiciary, only seven are women.

The superior judiciary in Pakistan comprises the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Federal Shariat Court, and the five high courts. Titled "Women in the Justice Sector," the report aims to present statistics regarding women's participation in Pakistan's judicial sector, including judges, lawyers, prosecutors, and other personnel, as per an LJCP press release issued on Friday.

According to the report, there are currently 3,142 judges and judicial officers working throughout the country. Among them, 2,570 are male and 572 are female, constituting 18 percent of the total number of working judges.
