PDM to protest in front of ECP today, preparations finalized

ISLAMABAD: 19, JANUARY, 2021: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is all set to hold a protest demonstration in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in the federal capital today (Tuesday) at 1:00pm.
Preparations have been completed and stage also placed for the PDM members who will address the gathering.
In this regard, strict security arrangements have been made ahead of the PDM's demonstration whereas the ECP members and staff have been directed to use alternatives routes to reach the office safely, sources said.
In addition, the staff has been advised not to bring their vehicles and motorcycles today, they added.
Sources informed that, the leaders of the anti-government alliance will gather at the Kashmir Chowk today from where they will leave for the ECP office on the container.
While addressing a press conference with Maryam Nawaz after a PDM steering committee meeting in Islamabad on Monday, Fazl has termed the foreign funding case as the "biggest scandal in the history of the country" and said that Imran Khan had created political instability by taking "Mother of NROs".
He said "On Tuesday, the PDM leadership will stage a massive protest in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan," adding that Imran Khan was the main accused in the foreign funding case in which private business was done through a secret account.
Maulana further said that PDM will protest in front of the ECP office and demand an early verdict as the delay is raising suspicions.
On January 21, there will be a million march rejecting Israel followed by a rally in solidarity with Kashmiris on February 5 at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, he informed.
"There will be a full-scale protest against those who sold off Kashmir," he added.
Other than that, historic rallies would be held in Hyderabad on February 9, Sialkot on February 13, Pishin on February 16, Sargodha on February 23, Khuzdar on February 27, followed by the decision to march towards Islamabad, he continued.
The final date for the Long March will be announced at the PDM rally, said Fazlur Rehman.
According to sources, 1,800 personnel will be deployed in the city on the day of the protest for security reasons.
"The red zone would remain a container-free zone and the PDM would not be allowed to setup a stage for their protest," sources had said adding that it was further suggested that the opposition should not be allowed to bring tents and loudspeakers with them.
Traffic plan has also been issued by the Islamabad traffic police to facilitates commuters during PDM's protest.
On Friday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed had said the government would not stop the PDM protest outside the election commission if "they abide by the law and Constitution."
He said the Opposition could "practise its constitutional right" and the government would "not create any hurdle for its protest," but emphasised that the "law would take its course if the Opposition tries to create unrest in the capital." (04)
