PIA aircraft crash: Process of paying compensation to heirs of victims to commence today

KARACHI: 23, OCTOBER, 2020: The process of paying compensation to heirs of PIA plane crash victims near Karachi airport on May 22 will commence today (Friday).
According to sources, the compensation will be paid to only those kin who had complete the inheritance documents.
Concerned sources informed that, in the first phase, Rs 10 million each will be paid to five heirs of victims while the two survivors of the plane crash, Muhammad Zubair and Zafar Masood, would also received Rs 10 million each.
Sources said that Rs10 million each would be paid to the heirs of 97 passengers killed in the PIA aircraft crash.
Earlier, the PIA provided Rs1m each to the families of the deceased passengers for their last rites/funeral.
On May 22, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-8303 carrying 90 passengers and eight crew members crashed on Friday in the densely-populated Model Colony, a residential area near Jinnah International Airport Karachi, as a result, several lives lost and around five homes and some vehicles destroyed in the mishap.
The ill-fated plane took off from Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport at 1:10pm and was scheduled to land in Karachi.
According to sources, at least 97 people lost their lives in the incident while 2 passengers, Bank of Punjab president Zafar Masud and Muhammad Zubair, the young mechanical engineer have miraculously survived. (04)
