PPP senior leader Khurshid Shah likely to be released from prison today

SUKKUR: 22, OCTOBER, 2021: Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) senior leader and former opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah is likely to be released from prison today (Friday).
Yesterday, the Supreme Court accepted bail plea of PPP leader Khurshid Shah in an assets beyond means case, over two years after he was arrested.
The court had ordered his release and directed Shah to submit surety bonds worth Rs10 million to secure the bail.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case.
A bench of the apex court comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah accepted the bail of Khursheed Shah.
The bench also directed NAB to continue its inquiry into the case but not keep the PPP leader permanently in jail.
During the hearing, the NAB requested that Khurshid Shah's name be included in the ECL, which was accepted by the court.
Earlier, on October 20, Supreme Court (SC) ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit basic material for the arrest of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khurshid Shah.
During the proceedings, Shah's counsel told the court that "The allegations leveled by the anti-graft watchdog have not been made part of the case".
NAB prosecutor said that the govt had constituted a committee for clearance on the amendment ordinance.
Later, the court had ordered to inform about the reasons behind arresting the PPP leader.
Remember that, the NAB had apprehended senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah in a case regarding his alleged assets beyond means on September 18, 2019.
"NAB Sukkur arrested Syed Khursheed Shah in the assets beyond means case," a brief handwritten statement issued by NAB Islamabad said.
The PPP stalwart was arrested in a joint operation by NAB's Rawalpindi and Sukkur chapters.
In July 2021, the Sindh High Court dismissed a petition seeking Shah's request for bail.
Multiple corruption cases against Shah are under investigation with NAB. (04)
