news-details

KARACHI: 03, DECEMBER, 2021: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) leader and Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh and others have challenged the new Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2021 in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday.
According to sources, the PTI's members of Sindh Assembly have filed a plea in the SHC in this regard.
The petition stated that "Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) wants to occupy all the resources through this bill."
It is pertinent to mention here that, on November 27, PPP had got to pass an amended local government bill that takes away functions of education and health care from municipal bodies and replaces open ballot for the election of mayors, deputy mayors, etc.
The opposition parties including PTI, Grand Democratic Alliance, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Muttahida Majlis Amal had rejected the bill and boycotted the proceedings.
Earlier, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail while talking to media persons said that "the Sindh government acted in an irresponsible manner by showing haste in passing a bill from the provincial assembly to amend the local government system of the province." The provincial government should have followed parliamentary norms by presenting the bill in an appropriate manner before the Sindh Assembly, he added.
On the other hand, Opposition MPA and PTI Karachi leader Khurrum Sher Zaman said the Sindh government had murdered the democratic norms by the way it passed from the Sindh Assembly the Sindh Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2021. (04)
