Pakistan sees significant rise in coronavirus cases

ISLAMABAD: 06, JANUARY, 2022: Coronavirus infections tally in the country has reached 1,299,848 on Thursday after more cases were reported in different parts of the country.
According to the national database, 1,085 persons tested positive for the deadly virus in 24 hours whereas the positivity rate stands at 2.32 percent.
As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 484,226 the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 446,300, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases jumped to 181,573, in Balochistan 33,654 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases reached 108,984, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 10,429 while 34,682 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In addition, the country has recorded 28,955 deaths so far, after five fatalities were reported over the last 24 hours.
As per official data, Punjab recorded 13,076 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 7,676 in Sindh, 5,938 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 186 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 366 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 967 deaths and AJK recorded 746 deaths.
According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 23,655,230, corona tests and 46,585 in last 24 hours and 1,257,847 patients have recovered.
Reportedly, 468,362 patients have been recovered in Sindh, 429,521 in Punjab, 175,036 in KP, 33,251 in Balochistan, 107,528 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 10,242 in Gilgit-Baltistan while in AJK 33,907 patients have been completely recovered across Pakistan whereas 636 patients are in critical condition.
