Pakistan sees slight decline in coronavirus deaths, cases in 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: 09, JANUARY, 2021: The number of coronavirus infections has reached 499,517 on Saturday after more cases were reported in different parts of the country.
According to the national database, 2,007 persons tested positive for the deadly virus in 24 hours whereas the total count of active cases increased up to 33,474.
As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 224,004 the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 144,111, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases jumped to 60,751, in Balochistan 18,351 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases reached 38,970, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 4,879 while 8,451 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In addition, the country has recorded 10,598 deaths so far, after 40 fatalities were reported over the last 24 hours.
As per official data, Punjab recorded 4,242 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 3,679 in Sindh, 1,718 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 101 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 187 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 436 deaths and AJK recorded 235 deaths.
According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 7,043,604 corona tests and 40,898 in last 24 hours and 455,445 patients have recovered.
Reportedly, 202,570 patients have been recovered in Sindh, 129,852 in Punjab, 55,928 in KP, 17,898 in Balochistan, 36,546 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 4,728 in Gilgit-Baltistan while in AJK 7,923 patients have been completely recovered across Pakistan whereas 2,266 patients are in a critical condition across the country.
