New Dehli: 23 D ecember 2020: Farmers on roads, until Modi, take back the 3 laws that were passed in September 2020, Usually, Indian farmers sell their produce to the Govt run procurement centers where they should be getting the minimum set prices. The new rules passed by Govt say that now farmers will directly deal with private companies to sell their products and they don't mention minimum prices.
Farmers are afraid that these companies don't mention minimum prices. The law also allows private companies to hoard essential items for future sale. Farmers say these bills were passed without consultation with Farmers, these laws were imposed on them. They protest that these laws were made in hurry to profit the business class, and individual companies without giving proper time to debate.
The agricultural sector employs half of the 1.3 billion population.
Modi government said these laws are in the greater interest of the farmer, they can directly negotiate with the companies and the individual firms and the farmers will explore the big market.
Farmers are on the verge of suicide, they since decades have been facing the issues like low productivity, climate change, high indebtedness by farmers, and more than 300000 farmers have been killed themselves in the last 25 years. they believe that such laws will further cripple them.
Several rounds have failed of talks until Govt repeal these laws.SC court said that it does not have any issue with farmers' protest unless the public property is damaged or broken. Peaceful protest is their right.
