Islamabad: 12 August 2023: Anwaarul Haq Kakar, a senator from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), has been chosen as Pakistan's acting prime minister. His responsibility is to maintain the status quo until a new administration is chosen.
The much-awaited announcement occurred after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and departing Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Raja Riaz agreed on Kakar's name for the coveted position during a meeting in Islamabad today, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office.
The two leaders then advised President Arif Alvi to nominate Kakar as the interim prime minister, and President Alvi quickly gave his approval.
