Remembering Sultan Rahi on his 25th death anniversary

LAHORE: 09, JANUARY, 2021: 25th death anniversary of legend actor Sultan Rahi is being observed today (Saturday).
Sultan Rahi was born in a Muslim family in Utter Pardesh in India in 1938. His family migrated to Pakistan after partition and settled in Gujranwala after 1947.
He began his film career in 1959 as a guest actor in film 'Baghi' but rose to tremendous fame after the release of film 'Maula Jatt' in 1979.
During his career, he appeared in more than 700 Punjabi and Urdu-language movies and was also named in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most prolific actor.
"Char Khoon Day Piyase" was his first Punjabi film, in the beginning of the career in film industry, he acted in Urdu films as Punjabi was not his mother tongue. His other works include Behram Daku (1980), Sher Khan (1981), Sala Sahib and Ghulami (1985).
Sultan Rahi was not only a tremendous artist but a fine human being who worked free of charge for financially poor directors.
Sultan Rahi was shot dead this day in Gujranwala in 1996, during a highway robbery on the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road), while coming back to Lahore from Islamabad. (04)
