Remembering comedy king Lehri on his 9th death anniversary

KARACHI: 13, SEPTEMBER, 2021: The 9th death anniversary of versatile actor Safirullah Siddiqui, commonly known as Lehri is being observed today (Monday).

Lehri was born on 2nd January 1929, moved to Karachi after partition and began working as a stenotypist during his teenage years. He is known as the comedy king and actor in the Lollywood. He is still considered as one of the most acclaimed comedians of South Asia.

He won 11 Nigar Awards in Lollywood for various films between 1964 and 1986. Lehri's first movie, Anokhi, was released in 1956, and his last production was Dhanak in 1986. 

His outstanding works include Mera Ghar Meri Jannat, Tasvir, Tum Salamat Raho, Ishara, Nai Laila Naya Majnon, Tum Milay Pyaar Mila, Bahadur, Saiqa, Naukar and Zameer.

He died on 13 September 2012 in Karachi, at the aged of 83, was suffering from lung, kidney diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart issues. 

He had been under treatment and was on a ventilator due to prolonged illness in a private hospital at the time of his death. (04)
