Kiev: 12 March 2022: The parallels of Russian Ukraine crisis can be drawn from the Cuban Missile crisis of 1962, where Soviet Union tried to spread its influence in the backyard of USA, it was caught red handed by American intelligence and resulting tensions eventually lead to retreat of the Soviets from Cuba.
Fast forward to Ukraine or Eastern Europe as a whole and it can be observed that there is a gradual encroachment of NATO to the territories once directly controlled by Soviet Union and post fall of the Union on them it was an understanding that they will remain neutral, but commitments were not honoured and at least a dozen nations which were supposed to be neutral have joined NATO, Russia being a weak state watched that with patience and now has finally reacted when it is relatively stronger and has favourable international situation. It will not back down as stakes are very high for it Ukraine is a direct neighbour of Russia and just like US response on Cuba back in 1962, it would go to any lengths necessary to keep its backyard free from NATO's presence no matter how high the cost it has to pay.
Demonizing Russia will not help, reason for Russian aggression should be understood and they should be resolved, otherwise to quote Putin, "We will not hold back when someone comes and fits missiles in front of our house to strike us down."
