SABS, SITCO and UoS ink MoU with Toledo USA to collaborate for students exchange programs, joint ventures at grand level

JAMSHORO: 14, SEPTEMBER, 2021: Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro (SABS) University of Art, Design and Heritages Jamshoro, Sindh Indegenous Traditional Crafts Company and Institute of Art and Design University of Sindh Jamshoro Signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Toledo city, USA to collaborate in education, art, culture, economic and social sectors at grand level.

An online meeting was held to celebrate the ten years friendship of Toledo Hyderabad Sister City Council signed back in 2011 between Mayor of city of Hyderabad and Toledo.

The meeting was held in the premises of Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritages Jamshoro on September 14, 2021.

The Pakistani delegation included the administrator Hyderabad capt (Rtd) Altaf Sario, Vice-Chancellor SABS Prof. Dr. Bhai Khan Shar, President Hyderabad Taledo Sister City Council Younis Khatr, Head of Cultural Committee Shakeel Abro, Chairperson Women, Youth and Media Marium Siddiqi and Director Institute of Art and Design, University of Sindh Jamshoro Prof. Saeed Mangi.

Toledo City penal included Mayor of Toledo Wade Kapszukiewicz, Council General of Pakistan at Chicago Tariq Karim, Vice President Toledo Sister City International and Chairman Toledo Chair Department of Art, University of Toledo Barbara Miner.

The meeting started with National anthem of Pakistan and added address of Administrator Hyderabad Altaf Sario, V.C SABS Prof. Dr. Bhai Khan Shar and President Hyderabad Toledo Sister City Council Younis Khatri.

They said that both cities can contribute in fields of education, culture, art, economic and trade sectors as well as person to person communication and relation. Both cities have vast historical background and both lie on the bank of large rivers and by default these factors bring both nations together for long term run, they added.

Speakers said that Hyderabad region is cultural and educational hub of Pakistan where large number of industries and more than 5000 educational institutions are present so the Mayor of Toledo may be catalyst in providing support to strengthen and broaden the academic collaborative environment by including more sectors and the universities from Hyderabad and Toledo in this fold.

Vice-Chancellor SABS Dr. Bhai Khan Shar said that SABS University of Art, Design and Heritages, Jamshoro is already allowing 09 seats to the candidates from foreign, and few more seats can be added for the art and design aspirant students from the City of Toledo on the same fee structure offered to the students from Pakistan, if such an interest is shown.

Administrator Hyderabad Capt (Rtd) Altaf Sario suggested to name any road in both cities on the name of Hyderabad and Toledo as a mark of their friendship and invited Mayor Toledo to visit Hyderabad and see hospitality of Pakistani nation.

Mayor of Toledo Wade Kapszukiewicz appreciated the efforts taken by Hyderabad Toledo Sister City Council for their commitment and dedication to enhance cooperation between both cities.

He said that Toledo has always welcomed the friendship corridor for various cities of the world and it was the only city in world that made a frienship agreement with a Spanish city back in 1931, at the time when the European and American countries were facing the divide and hatred created by the first world war.

Wade Kapszukiewicz said that he was deeply impressed with the historical background of Hyderabad and its importance as cultural, traditional and educational city of Pakistan. He assured for strengthening the relation between both cities in the years to come and exhibit art of students from SABS and UoS in galleries of his city.

After the addresses SABS, SITCO and UoS signed MoU with the concerned authorities of Toledo.

The MoU signed between SABS and University of Toledo suggested to strengthen mutual trust and reciprocity, will cooperate to reap favorable social and economic benefits while also promoting the institutions, to exhibit art work of students in Toledo that has already been sent, to cooperate in the major field of Art, such as: ceramics, aspects of design, digital media and photography, to organize virtual seminars/presentations as agreed upon, student/faculty exchanges, virtual workshops camps for students/faculty during summer/winter semester.

The MoU signed between SITCO, Institute of Art and Design (IAD) UoS, Toledo Sister City International and Arts Commission of Greater Toledo suggested that IAD will share and provide art and design work of mature artists, students and alumni with Toledo Arts Commission for promotion in Toledo, to arrange online workshops Toledo artists and students, to purpose and conduct joint short courses to be conducted with collaboration of Toledo Arts Commission involving Toledo University, to provide short video documentaries on arts and crafts that can be shown in exhibition, to facilitate in organizing International Youth Academy in Toledo, SITCO will share indigenous arts and crafts of Indus Vally and will arrange online workshops with master crafts persons of Sindh, to allocate space in open air museum for Toledo Arts and Cutural gallery to promote creative work of Toledo artists, to provide crafts documentaries that can be shown in the workshops, to engage and arrange artists in performing arts and folk music for online performance and identify young artists to participate in International Youth Academy in Toledo.

In the end cake cutting ceremony was held to celebrate a decade of friendship and both officials exchanged gifts with each other. (04)
