Sargodha: 26 May 2024: Sargodha police intervened to rescue two Christian families from a violent mob that had besieged their homes in Mujahid Colony on Saturday morning, according to police officials. The mob's attack, reportedly triggered by allegations of desecration, led to the arrest of 15 individuals. District Police Officer (DPO) Asad Ejaz Malhi clarified that despite the tense situation, no casualties occurred as a significant police force was swiftly deployed to the area.

"Upon our arrival, the mob had already congregated outside the residences. We secured the area and safely evacuated all residents," stated Malhi, underscoring the additional police presence deployed across the city to safeguard the Christian community. Contrary to social media footage depicting scenes of violence, including property destruction and a blaze, Malhi dismissed them as "fabricated," asserting that no injuries were sustained. "Our priority is to uphold law and order," he affirmed.

However, contradicting this narrative, a relative of an injured individual revealed to Dawn.com that their uncle remained in critical condition at a hospital, with the family being denied access to him. In a separate account, the Minority Rights March stated that videos of the incident depicted a mob assaulting a 70-year-old man, allegedly incited by a local cleric, while also setting his home and factory on fire.

The statement criticized the Punjab police for their purported inaction, accusing them of tacitly endorsing the attackers. Responding to the allegations, a statement from the Punjab police highlighted the prompt response of Regional Police Officer Shariq Kamal, DPO Malhi, and other officials, who swiftly intervened upon receiving reports of the incident. Their efforts reportedly saved ten lives and brought the situation under control.
