Shafqat says decision to reopen educational institutes to be taken with consensus on Sep 7

ISLAMABAD: 27, AUGUST, 2020: Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on Thursady has said the final decision regarding the reopening of educational institutes will be taken with consensus on August 7.
Speaking at the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in the federal capital Shafqat Mahmood said the govt is preparing effective strategy for reopening of educational institutions.
While briefing the NCOC, the minister emphasized that the educational institutions must ensure compliance to all coronavirus safety measures and prepare accordingly before the final decision.
Earlier , on August 19, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho on Wednesday has opposed reopening of schools up to grade 9 in the province and other parts of the country from coming month.
The provincial health minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho urged the authorities that matric, intermediate and universities can only be allowed to reopen with strict implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the govt.
She said primary and middle schools children can spread the deadly virus.
"Is not possible to stop children under the age of 14 from socializing," she added.
"Universities and colleges can only be allowed to reopen with strict implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)," she said and urged students and teachers to follow all the SOPs, wear masks, practice social distancing.
The minister warned that reopening of schools could lead to a new wave of COVID-19 infections in the country.
Children touch their noses, faces and eyes, in this way children can also affect their families.
Earlier in July, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood announced phase-wise reopening of educational instituttions across the country from September 15. (04)
