Islamabad: 9 August 2023: The possibility of election violence in Pakistan, where the former prime minister Imran Khan has been disqualified from running, has drawn worry from the United States, it was announced on Wednesday.

John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said: "We're obviously concerned about any actions — particularly violent actions — that can contribute to instability in Pakistan or, frankly, any other country with whom we share a set of common interests when it comes to counterterrorism.

Naturally, we're keeping an eye on that, he told reporters. Kirby was replying to a query about whether violent extremists were using the political unrest as the fifth-most populous nation in the world prepares for elections. An order to dissolve the National Assembly is expected to be interim government appointed to oversee elections.
