Shaukat Tarin sworn in as senator

ISLAMABAD: 24, DECEMBER, 2021: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin has taken oath as senator on Friday.
According to details, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath to the newly-elected senator.
Tarin considered as the strongest contender for the slot compared to other candidates as the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) enjoys majoring in the house.
Earlier, Shaukat Tarin was elected senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Out of 145 members of the provincial assembly, 122 cast their votes during Senate by-elections. The finance adviser won the seat after securing 87 votes.
The Senate seat was vacated by Muhammad Ayub Afridi, who tendered his resignation from the upper house in November upon Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wish. The PM subsequently appointed him as an adviser on overseas Pakistanis.
Tarin was appointed the federal finance minister on Apr 16, 2021, and served against that post for six months. As he was not a parliamentarian, he couldn’t hold that office beyond six months. (04)
