Sindh govt challenges amendment in NAB Ordinance in Supreme Court

KARACHI: 15, NOVEMBER, 2019: Sindh government challenged NAB amendment ordinance in Supreme Court on Thursday.
In a petition filed by the Sindh government, the Federal Government has issued ordinance regarding facilities for prisoners in prisons.
According to the ordinance, NAB case accused can avail of C class facility.
In the constitutional petition, the government took the stand that the federal cannot make any amendments to the issue of prisons.
Prison is a provincial subject, the laws cannot be made by the federal government.
Only provinces can legislate on prisons, amendments should be banned.
Petition filed by Advocate General Sindh Govt. Petition filed in Sumpreme Court Karachi Registry.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Advisor to the Law Environment and Coastal Development and spokesman Sindh Government Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that The federal government-issued ordinance, particularly prisoners' issues, conflicts with the Constitution of Pakistan, which falls into the category of provincial intervention.
Addressing a press conference on Media Corner of Sindh Assembly, he said that prison and prisoner cases are governed by provincial governments.
The federal government will approach the judiciary for this unconstitutional move from the government that issued an ordinance to keep prisoners in jail.
Sindh government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the implementation of this ordinance. (04)
