Hyderabad: 20 March 2020: The fear of death is more dangerous than the death itself, Pakistanis specifically Sindhis are going through this fear presently. Other virus affected patients are isolated and in the fear that soon there lives will also end silently, or there would be news of their death in the newspaper, the highest recognition they could get is they will be counted in this history
of pandemic related deaths. God forbid, this situation is Grim and getting uglier day by day, the number of cases is increasing manyfold in hours, and the unreported and nonscanned continue to risk their own and other's lives. Only insane can play dirty politics and blame game plus inter-provincial skirmishes at this moment here required a leader, rise above party politics and past rhetorics formulate a coordinated response that can make efficient and judicious use of available resources.
No matter how meager they are, Anation with leaders stand firm can not be completely powerless. The Sindh Government unexpectedly is doing a commendable job to the multi-faceted challenge posed by COVID 19, KP has begun rolling out their strategy to cope with the situation. The shameful lack of robust response at the federal level is required. We are a society whose boned are already frayed weak on the difference of opinion which most of the time shape itself in the ugly form of the federal minister and persons taking gibe of "governor raaj" and serving provincial rights and powers.
A national emergency of this level like "Corona" which has engulfed thousands of lives, and infected millions and paralyzed the whole world and its business: if not handled intelligently can exacerbate pre-existing cleavages. Undoubtedly lockdown is necessary and prove beneficial world wide, but such a lockdown has given the realities of Pakistan could be harmful itself, there is a fear that people might not die in corona but they will die in hunger. More than half of its population is below the poverty line the filthy rich 2 percent hardly have the courage and will to go out and help others in need.
Amazingly forces are at bay too, It is the police and local services and Drs that are working day and night relentlessly. Hats off to those who continue and choose to work in this environment. They are the heroes without arms and dress code. In the same manner, governments must not forget the misery of the daily wagers, they are the most vulnerable section of society. In any case, the closure of markets and schools — places where hawkers tend to find customers — has already begun to impact the poor.
An intervention by the state is urgently required. In concert with provincial dispensations, the government must devise a streamlined plan of action that also co-opts the private sector — including organizations already engaged in charitable work — so that efforts are not replicated and equitable distribution of relief goods is ensured. Low-income families must be provided the wherewithal to make it through this unfolding nightmare.
