Australia : 20 November 2023: Australia defeated India on Sunday to win the men's ODI World Cup 2023 title in front of 92,453 blue-clad supporters in Ahmedabad. Social media users were saddened by the lack of sportsmanship displayed by several politicians and spectators within the stadium, while the host team struggled to secure a victory.
When playing against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium, opposing teams have previously encountered jeers or silence from the crowd. This incidence is not unique. When Pakistan played on October 14, they received a similar welcome. But the Australian side was well-prepared and unaffected, in sharp contrast to Babar Azam and his colleagues. Speech made by Captain Pat Cummins one day prior to the final match, had noted, “The crowd’s obviously going to be very one-sided, but in sport, there’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent, and that’s the aim for us tomorrow”.
