New York: 21 October 2023: US President Joe Biden urged Americans to battle antisemitism and Islamophobia head-on on Thursday night during a speech to the country from the Oval Office. In his 15-minute speech, he begged Congress for tens of billions of dollars to wage Israel's war against the Palestinians and the conflict in Ukraine.
However, the US media claimed on Friday that Mr. Biden will request $60 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel in addition to financing for border and Indo-Pacific security. Mr. Biden did not specify how much money he was seeking. The total cost of the package is predicted to reach $100 billion.
Mr. Biden said that the United States "remains committed to" backing Israel despite the fact that much of his address was devoted to defending the need for continued support. the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination”. He called on Israel to uphold “the laws of war” and restated the goal of a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians — though such a goal seems bleakly distant right now.
