Country reports zero covid deaths for first time in 2 years: Asad Umar


ISLAMABAD: 23, MARCH, 2022: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Wednesday said Pakistan reported zero Covid death for the first time in the past two years.
National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) head Asad Umar tweeted, "Alhamdulillah no covid related deaths reported in the country in the last 24 hours. This is the first time in 2 years that this has happened."
Earlier, on March 16, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Wednesday said that the government lifted all the coronavirus related restrictions across the country.
In a tweet, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) head Asad Umar wrote that, "It was decided in the NCOC meeting today to lift all restrictions except the vaccination restrictions."
"All those who are not vaccinated must get fully vaccinated so that they can avoid all restrictions. We will continue to monitor disease pattern closely & take action if needed," he added.
Asad Umar said that the covid-19 cases are witnessing a continuous decline across Pakistan, so all restrictions are being lifted, adding that, the pandemic has not ended yet but undergoing the ending phase.
It is to be noted that, Covid-19 cases tally in the country has jumped to 1,522,862 on Wednesday after more infections were reported in different parts of the country.
According to the national database, 443 persons infected with the deadly virus in 24 hours whereas the positivity rate stands at 1.28 percent.
As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 574,157 the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 504,577 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases jumped to 218,777, in Balochistan 35,460 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases reached 134,991, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 11,673 while 43,227 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In addition, the country has recorded 30,333 deaths so far while no deaths recorded today Wednesday.
As per official data, Punjab recorded 13,551 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 8,092 in Sindh, 6,307 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 191 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 378 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 1,022 deaths and AJK recorded 792 deaths.
According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 27,238,025 corona tests and 34,476 in last 24 hours and 1,484,496 patients have been recovered.
Reportedly, 560,140 patients have been recovered in Sindh, 490,076 in Punjab, 211,592 in KP, 35,064 in Balochistan, 133,773 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 11,446 in Gilgit-Baltistan while in AJK 42,405 patients have been completely recovered across Pakistan while 455 patients are in critical condition.
